EVENTS

Below is a list of regularly scheduled events hosted by Engage the Light.

Photo Walks - most accessible

- For those wishing to participate in regular low-key, casual walks around local parks and places of interest

- Bring your own camera or use one of the cameras donated to ETL by our supportive community

- If you need a ride to a walk location, that can be arranged in most cases, as long as you live in Lubbock

- If you require special accommodations, please contact us

- Dogs that are not registered Service Dogs are welcome, so long as they are leashed and controlled, and are allowed at the walk location
Photo Hikes - most challenging

- For those wishing to participate in something a bit more physically demanding

- Bring your own camera or use one of the cameras donated to ETL by our supportive community

Hikes occur in such places as Palo Duro Canyon in Canyon, Texas; Wheeler Peak in Taos, New Mexico; Ruidoso, New Mexico, and other locations within 6-8 hour drive from Lubbock

- Dogs are welcome, so long as they are leashed and controlled, and are allowed at the hike location
Expressive Photography Workshops

- Free to military veterans and at-risk communities, ETL hosts expressive photography workshops, location TBD

- Each workshop group is limited to six (6) individuals in order to provide more personalized instruction

- Workshops are typically held at the same time and location, once a week for 4-6 weeks

- While some technical assistance is provided during the workshops, it is best to come with at least a basic understanding of your camera, as the content of these workshops is mostly focused on creation/expression

- Due to the deeply expresive nature of these workshops, ETL does partner with a local certified behavioral specialist during each series
Portraits for Veterans Project

- A free portrait (digital and/or printed) for military veterans and optional inclusion in our online veterans storytelling project

- Usually occurs once a year near Veterans Day but may be arranged at other times as well

- Veterans who wish to be involved in the 'giving' side of this event receive (free) training in studio photography

- Veterans who wish to be involved in the 'receiving' side of this event receive (free) two 5x7 prints and/or a high-resolution digital file of their portrait

- All particpating veterans may choose to share part of their story (along with their portrait) for publication on our project website
